I'm wishing you the best of luck! The best tips I can offer are to stay away from sodas, even diet ones. Keep a journal of not only what you eat, but how you feel as you begin reaching your goals. GOOD LUCK! :D

Hey Lindsey - good for you for setting a weight goal! You can do it! I'll be praying for determination for you.
I think Jillian Michael's has a lot of great workout videos if you can't get to a gym. Her 30 Day Shred video is great but focuses alot on building muscle - I also have one of her videos that is geared toward fat metabolism, and it's really good too. She really makes you work.
Eat alot of vegetables and fruits! They're some of the healthiest stuff you can eat, and they keep you fuller so that you don't eat as much bad stuff. Avioid anything that just gives empty calories - pop, juice (it has some redeeming qualities, but it has alot of calories), and as much as it pains me to say it, Starbucks. Switching to skim milk can be a good way to cut calories too, and drink alot of it - I don't even count skim milk as calories personally, because it's just good for you.
Calorie counting, calorie counting! That's the key for me when I'm trying to lose weight. Set a healthy limit for weight loss (which is probably less than the FDA recommends, because you are not trying to maintain, you are trying to lose) and stick to your calorie limit - if you blow it early in the day try to find ways to cut out some calories later.
You can do it, girl!

I hope your endeavor goes well! I've been on the fast-track-to-health lately and loving every minute of it!
As Callie mentioned above, "The Shred" is a really good workout! I am also head-over-heels in love with Pilates, which is great for toning & sculpting your core.
Avoid junk food! Chips, pop, ...things with TONS of calories that don't really satisfy your hunger. Your body will start wanting less food if you fill up with healthy stuff because it will be more satisfied with the nutrition it’s receiving. Your body craves nutritional value in food, but it never receives it if all we eat is junk.
A huge thing for hubby & I is NO SECOND HELPINGS! I can't stress that enough It's about self-control. It's worth it.
YOU CAN DO IT!!! It's hard work, but there is a great sense of victory as you see the numbers on the scale going down! :) And don't give up...just keep working and you WILL SEE RESULTS!
Keep us posted on your progress!
You Go Girl!

Lindsey - start each day in prayer. Asking God to help you to eat healthy so you can keep your body(Temple of God) healthy.
JUst remember that it's ok if you mess up. And then sometimes just a little bite of something sweet will satisfy that craving and prevent you from binging later.
I love to snack on grapes and apples. THey fill me up and aren't bad for me.
Praying for you!

Hi Lindsey!
Over the past year I've lost 35 lbs. I too am 5'4. I am currently at 145 with a goal of 135. I have a small frame and these last 10 lbs have been a booger to lose!
I know this is not the conventional way to do it, but I went to see my doctor and asked him if there was anything I could do to 'kick start' my diet. He put me on a prescription medication called Adipex for 3 months. I dropped a majority of the weight during that time. It kills your appetite and gives you nice even energy so you FEEL like working out! Now any prescription drug is a risk and I knew that. I also knew that my willpower was non-existent and I needed help. Also, no good doctor will recommend you take it longer than 3 months. Your body will developa resistance to it and it's effectiveness wears off over time. Here's the thing....being able to shed quite a few pounds early on kept me motivated for the rest of the way. I had a REASON to stay with the program because I had lost so much initially. You are still young so this might be a good option for you.
My 'program' for this past year has been workouts 6 days a week and strict caloric intake. In the beginning, I only did 1200 calories a day for 4-5 months. Caloric restriction is a must. You have to calculate everything that passes your lips. It's simple mathematics - you must burn more calories than you consume. Like someone mentioned in another post, Jillian Michaels' program would be great. On Biggest Loser they enforce caloric restriction and maximum burn. I do a modified 'Body for Life' program, that allows one free day a week to eat whatever I want. That way your body does not go into starvation mode. Also you do not workout on free day. My workouts are 3 days weight training (alternate upper body and lower body) & 3 days cardio, mainly on the treadmill. Cardio MUST be at least 30 minutes. You have to balance weight resistance training with cardio to achieve the best weight loss. If you have the money to invest. I would consult with a personal trainer for a few sessions to establish a good workout routine.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey Lindsey,
As your Creator, God knows best what would work for you to get His temple in the best possible shape. Pray about it - ask Him to show you what dietary choices to make and what exercise regiment would work best for you. My own journey to good health began four years ago, when my husband died, and I got into walking several times a week (I was 5'5" and 225). I initially did it just to stay sane, but it resulted in losing about 60 pounds over three years (and keeping it off). I now walk 4-6 miles, five mornings a week.
Earlier this year, when I asked God for guidance for my diet, He literally dropped the book, The Maker's Diet, in my lap (a friend brought it to me three days after my prayer). I've been on it for six months now, and love it (high protein, high produce, low carb). I've lost a few additional pounds, but it mostly was a fine tuning for good health (I've been able to cut my cholesterol meds in half - Praise God!).
Standing with you in prayer, sister!

One of the key things that I've learned over the past months is cleansing my body. For the most part I drink several glasses of Lemon Water daily. The lemon helps clean out your system. I've also taken several herbal digestive cleanses (available at your local health store). They help just start my weight loss, and make me feel more energized.

Hey Lindsey,
I agree with Mrs. Southern Bride....drink alot, alot, alot of water and add lemon if you choose.
Also, don't get caught up with weighing constantly. I suggest setting a certain time and day of the week and weigh only on that day. If we determine our eating successes by the scale we sabotage ourselves. We gals have to contend with hormone's and on any given day our weight can fluctuate up or down.
The Lord will help you with this.....He care about every little detail of our life!!
Praying for you!
Sweet Blessings!
Jackie

Hi Lindsey!
It is great that you are taking charge of your health. I'm pulling for you. :)
Tips
First off decide that you are going to do this and don't let anyone discourage you. Think of this diet change as a way to become a healthier person. Stay off the scales. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and eat less processed foods. Drink plenty of water and fresh juices.
Other foods you should stay away from
Fatty foods *just don't overeat these* If you eat meat..eat the lean cuts and try sticking to fish and chicken.
If you do dairy..look at the low fat kind or use a substitute, like almond milk.
If you eat fruit, don't eat fruit that is high in sugar. Avoid fast food.
Good Snacks
Fresh fruit, Nuts, popcorn, and some dried fruit that is not high in sugar. Granola.
Well, I wish you the best and stay focused!
Blessings,
Evelyn
